Affirmed Abu Sayyaf bomb thread hits UP Diliman
A spurious bomb risk supposedly issued by the fear monger Abu Sayyaf Group activated frenzy inside the University of the Philippines Diliman grounds in Quezon City on Thursday evening.
Chancellor Michael Tan, in an admonitory posted on Facebook, said UP's grounds support office hotline got an instant message whose sender asserted they put explosives inside the grounds that would blast after 3:30 p.m.
The instant message read: "Naglagay kami ng maga [sic] bomba na naka2lat sa UP Diliman. SDa2bog ang ito pagkatapos ng pagda2sl naming ng 3:30 PM."
"The message guaranteed this was to deliver retribution ('bilng gnti') for assaults in Patikul, Sulu," Tan said.
School powers then pronounced the risk as a deception.
"Our central security officer and fiasco reaction group consider it to be a deception. In opposition to bits of gossip, the organization has neither wiped out classes nor requested departures as they would just support more pranksters," he included.
"In any case, we are not taking risks and have requested our security powers to be on full caution for the following few days," Tan said.
School faculty were likewise trained to turn over suspicious-looking sacks or bundles to bomb transfer squads if necessary.
"We will keep on being on caution with or without bomb dangers given the strained circumstance with the ASG," he said.
